Reverting the school break to March is now being studied by the government, according to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, April 24.
Marcos made the statement in an interview with state-run Radyo Pilipinas.
Last month, the Department of Education said it had no plans yet to move the regular school break back to April and May.
This was after Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, chairperson of the Senate committee on basic education, suggested that the DepEd go back to the pre-pandemic school calendar given that the COVID-19 situation in the country has already improved.
DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa said at the time that school heads have the discretion to suspend in-person classes and immediately switch to alternative delivery modes or blended learning if the environment is not conducive to learning.

Meanwhile, Parents-Teachers Association Federation president Willy Rodriguez said the DepEd should install air conditioners in public schools because of the sweltering heat during the dry season.
However, Poa said there are budget limitations.
“We have fiscal restrictions sa budget. Napakarami pa, hindi lang aircon ang problema natin, napakarami pa nating mga dapat paggastusan sa ating mga classrooms,” he said on Monday.
