Liza Soberano reported to play student journo in a film about PH’s drug war

by Joyce Remo

LIZA Soberano is apparently making a debut on the international film scene after reports of her participation as one of the cast members in a drug war film surfaced on the internet.

According to IMDb, an online database of information about films, television series, podcasts, home videos, video games, and streaming content online, Soberano is listed as part of the ensemble of the film adaptation of the critically acclaimed coming-of-age novel Patron Saints of Nothing.

She is reported to portray the role of a journalism student named Mia who was tasked with reporting news on the country’s war on drugs.

American actor Brandon Perea, from the 2016 hit American drama series The OA, will play the lead role.

However, Soberano’s camp has yet to confirm the matter.

About the film

Patron Saints of Nothing is based on the 2019 novel of the same title written by Filipino-American writer Randy Ribay.

The novel explores themes of identity, family, and justice through the story of a Filipino-American teenager named Jay Reguero (played by Perea).

There are no actual saints mentioned in the novel, but the title refers to the idea that Jay’s search for truth and justice is a kind of personal pilgrimage or quest. In a sense, he is seeking his own patron saint to guide him on this journey.

The film adaptation will be directed and produced by Yellow Rose (2019) director Diane Paragas.

Excited fans

Soberano’s fans expressed their excitement, with most of them extending their support for her acting career.
