KUWAIT Foreign Minister Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has committed that justice will “take its course with full transparency and integrity” on the case of slain OFW Jullebee Ranara.
Ranara is the 35-year old domestic helper who was killed, burned and left in the desert in Kuwait last January 22. Kuwaiti authorities arrested the 17-year old son of her employer, who allegedly confessed to the crime.
Al-Sabah relayed his “sincere condolences and sympathy” to the family of Ranara when he summoned the Philippine chargé d’affaires to Kuwait Jose Cabrera III Sunday afternoon (Monday Philippine time).
He condemned and denounced the “heinous, inhumane crime.” He stressed that this is an “unfortunate individual event.”
“Such inhumane acts do not represent what the Kuwaiti people have become — with mercy, compassion and humanity,” Minister Al-Sabah said as quoted by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Kuwait protects Filipinos
Al-Sabah stressed the “keenness of the State of Kuwait to care for, protect, safety and preserve the rights of all residents on its land, including the Filipino community.”
Labor laws in Kuwait, he claimed, “received wide international praise by agencies and human rights bodies.”
He said Filipinos are “global human beings” and Kuwait appreciates “the role played by the Filipino community in the various sectors of the country.”
The foreign minister praised “with all appreciation the contributions of the Filipino community in building Kuwait and achieving sustainable development in it.”
He reiterated his keenness on “all elements of the strong bilateral relations that link the two friendly countries in all its aspects.”
PHL concerns
Philippine chargé d’affaires Cabrera “praised” Kuwaiti authorities for the quick arrest of the suspect and the clearances for the shipment of Ranara’s remains, the embassy said in a separate statement.
Cabrera also informed Kuwait that the Philippines would not halt the deployment of Filipino workers to the country.
“Mr. Cabrera informed Sheikh Salem that, based on statements by Ms. Maria Susana V. Ople, Secretary of Migrant Workers, there is no ban on deployment to Kuwait,” the Embassy added.
