Sinulog, Ati-Atihan and other Sto. Niño festivities in the country will likely be showered — literally and figuratively — with God’s blessings today.
For meteorologists, of course, the rain showers are all because of the two weather systems– Low-Pressure Area and the Northeast Monsoon.
Despite the threat of rains, thousands of devotees of The Holy Infant Jesus are expected to go out today, January 15, for the festivities.
The LPA was monitored 80 kilometers northeast Surigao City as of 3am Sunday.
Sinulog, Ati-Atihan weather
State weather forecasting agency Pagasa said moderate to heavy rains with at times intense rains, are expected in Cebu due to the effects of the LPA.
Cebu is holding the largest Sto. Niño festivity in the country — the Sinulog Grand Parade.
Aklan, where the other major Sto. Niño feast is held, will have light to moderate, with at times, heavy rains.
Other weather in Sto. Niño feasts
Metro Manila — where there will also be the traditional Sto. Niño fiestas in Tondo and Pandacan — will probably get light to moderate rains due to the Northeast Monsoon.
Other areas with light to moderate to heavy rains are other provinces of Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao, the rest of Calabarzon and Aurora.
Intense rains
Pagasa warned of intense rains in Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga regions, and Quezon province.
Light rains
Cloudy skies with scattered rains showers will be felt in Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region.
