Isabela beauty queen’s powerful answer about farming

by Izel Abanilla

JOHANNA Trisha Cinco, a contestant from a local beauty pageant, became viral after her impeccable answer about the future of farming.

During the Queen Isabela 2023 pageant, Miss Universe national director Shamsey Supsup asked Cinco how she can encourage her fellow millennials to look into and eventually choose a career in agriculture following a significant number of decline in farmers.

“I think it is time for us to stop burdening society to go to jobs that don’t benefit them. Instead, we should burden the system to create a more sustainable position for farmers and make farming a good job for the people..

“And once we do that — once the government does its job — that’s when millennials will choose to be farmers because by then it is a profession that will feed their family and it is a profession that will give them a sustainable life,” she said.

Her moment went viral on social media earning praises from netizens for her remarkable answer. One Twitter user carrying the handle @dale caught her answer on video.

Unfortunately, she failed to win the title but still said “being able to speak and be heard is already a win.”

She however bagged “Queen Isabela Culture and the Arts” title.

While some were stunned at her answer, it is not a surprise at all for those who know her personally Trisha.

The lass is an experienced national debater and the president of the Far Eastern University Oratorical and Debate Council during college.

In an Instagram post, Cinco said although she did not win the crown, she was glad that the pageant became a platform to speak on behalf of the farmers.

“I know what it’s like to be silenced but I also know what it feels like to be heard. Winning a crown is to get a seat in the discussion table and give due recognition to our personal causes.

“Yesterday, I was given a platform and I’m glad to have been able to use that platform to speak on behalf of our farmers who have continuously been victimized by the atrocities of a non-people centric system.

“May this create a ripple effect and encourage everyone to capitalize on all platforms to speak on behalf of those who can’t,” she wrote.
