My Philippines Travel Level is a web app where you can check whether you’ve lived in, stayed in, visited, alighted, been dropped off, or never stepped foot in an area.
Included in the My Philippines Travel Level site are the following:
- Lived there – you spent a significant portion of your life in that area.
- Stayed there – you slept at least a night in that area.
- Visited there – you spent some hours exploring the area.
- Alighted there – you just dropped off for a short stopover, layover, or transfer.
- Passed there – you passed by that area but did not set foot.
- Never been there – you need to travel there soon.
The web app was created by Singapore-based Filipino software engineer, Denz del Villar. He mentioned in his bio on the website that he used ReactJS and chatGPT when he created this project.
Denz also writes that he based this web app on the Japanese version with the same mechanics. He also admits that his travel level in the Philippines is only 62, which doesn’t seem to be a high level.
The web app has been trending on social media and has been reported by several news outlets. Various netizens have been testing the app and sharing their travel experiences.
Three days ago, former Vice President Leni Robredo wowed netizens with the many areas she has visited, with Camarines Sur being the only “Lived Here.”
Camarines Sur is Robredo’s home province.
This is in contrast to a recent post by @tiktok_philippines that offers a funny version of the My Philippines Travel Level: a colorless Philippine map. The caption reads, “siyempre blank, drawing barkada ko eh,”which is a meme for a situation called “drawing.”
“Drawing” is a slang term that means a planned trip never happened. It remains unclear how and when the term started being used. Many Filipinos, especially Gen Zs, now use it frequently when planning trips.
