Hong Kong to give away 30K free tickets for PHL

by Toni Tan

FILIPINOS will be among the first to take part in the Hong Kong tourism campaign set to give almost half a million plane tickets to attract more tourists to visit the city.

The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) will officially launch the “World of Winners” ticket giveaway campaign on Friday, March 3.

Free tickets via 3 HK airlines

The AAHK says the tickets will be distributed in phases by Hong Kong’s three home-based airlines: Cathay Pacific Airways, Hong Kong Express, and Hong Kong Airlines.

Some 150,000 tickets will be given to Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia.

About 30,000 tickets will be given to residents in the Philippines.

Among the three Hong Kong-based airlines, only Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong Airlines fly to the Philippines.

In a press statement, the AAHK said that in the Southeast Asia markets, the campaign would continue in Northeast Asia, Mainland China and other markets.

Philippine tourism market

Philippine passport holders are not required to enter Hong Kong.

Because of this, many Filipinos come to Hong Kong for leisure and shopping.

In 2017, close to 900,000 Filipinos visited Hong Kong for tourism purposes only.

How to avail of free tickets

Interested applicants for the free tickets should become a member of the airline first, and it can be quickly done by registering on the airlines’ websites.

After securing registration, an applicant can go to https://wow.hongkongairport.com/lang/en/tickets to complete the process and answer some questions.

A confirmation email will be sent to the applicants should they qualify for the program.

What’s in store

The ticket giveaway in the “World of Winners” campaign is all round-trip economy-class tickets.

Travelers who get free tickets will also receive special offers from AAHK’s business partners for hotel accommodation, shopping, and entertainment in Hong Kong.

Face mask no longer required in HK

“Hong Kong has fully opened up and we are eager to welcome visitors from different parts of the world. Travellers visiting Hong Kong are no longer required to have received Covid-19 vaccination, or undergo testing or quarantine upon arrival.

“And from today wearing a face mask is no longer mandatory in Hong Kong. At Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the terminal has been extensively refurbished, with various new services and facilities providing passengers a brand new airport experience,” said Vivian Cheung, Chief Operating Officer of AAHK.

Cheung said the AAHK continued improving the cosmopolitan hub even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“AAHK has spared no effort in improving the airport’s facilities to further enhance passenger experience. Sky Bridge, the world’s longest airside footbridge measuring 200-metre long, offers stunning views of the apron. The luxury shopping zone at Terminal 1 has been renovated, housing over 40 renowned brands and three new iconic duplex stores. Smart technologies have been extensively applied to different aspects of the airport’s service,” Cheung added.

Hong Kong is one of the busiest international hubs, with over 220 destinations worldwide by over 120 airlines.
