Fuel surcharge to go down in May as airlines offer cheap flights

by Carl Santos

For those who have yet to purchase airline tickets to their dream destinations for this dry season, the Civil Aeronautics Board has some good news.

In an advisory issued on Monday, April 17, CAB Executive Director Carmelo Arcilla said fuel surcharges would go down from Level 6 this month to Level 5 in May.

Under Level 5, the fuel surcharge ranges from P151 to P542 for domestic flights, and P498.03 to P3,703.11 for international flights.

For April, fuel surcharges ranged from P185 to P665 for domestic flights and from P610.37 to P4,538.40 for overseas destinations.

Airlines implement fuel surcharges to cover costs when jet fuel prices increase.

In another development, airlines have rolled out promo fares to encourage Filipinos to travel in the coming months.

Leading local carrier Cebu Pacific announced that travelers can book their flights to select domestic and international destinations for as low as P1 for one-way base fare, exclusive of fees and surcharges.

The booking period is from April 17 to 19, 2023, while the travel period is from August 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.

AirAsia Philippines, meanwhile, offers a one-way base fare of P88 to select domestic destinations if you fly from Manila, Cebu, and Clark.

Promo tickets can be purchased from April 17 to 23 and the travel period is from April 17 to October 31, 2023.
