I bet you could sometimes find all the mysteries of the universe in someone’s hand, or maybe inside your favorite cinemas!

The film adaptation of Benjamin Alire Sáenz’s hit coming-of-age novel Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe will be landing in theaters sometime between June to September this year.

Sáenz confirmed an exclusive report about the film’s release in an Instagram post

But he said the international screening dates for the film are yet to be determined.

“Excited to finally share the news!!!” Sáenz wrote in the caption. “International release dates TBD!”

He also announced that the film’s trailer will be dropping this June.

The announcement of the film’s wide theatrical release followed Blue Fox Entertainment’s acquisition of the film’s North American rights, as per an exclusive report.

Its sale came a few months after Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022.

“It’s rare when a best-selling book, talented crew, amazing director and cast all come together to create a ‘must see’ film, and we are very proud to bring ‘Aristotle and Dante’ to audiences across the U.S.,” Blue Fox executive James Huntsman was quoted as saying in the report.

Highly-acclaimed story

The film Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is written and directed by Aitch Alberto, which marks her directorial debut. It is produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda who is also behind the successful runs of Broadway musicals In the Heights and Hamilton.

It stars actors Max Pelayo, who plays Aristotle Mendoza, and Reese Gonzales, who portrays Dante Quintana.

The movie is based on the 2012 young adult novel of the same name. It is set in El Paso in Texas and follows the adventures of two queer Mexican boys as they come to terms with their sexuality, identity, and family affairs, all while struggling to fit in a discriminatory 1987 society.

The novel has been praised for its beautiful prose, nuanced characters, and sensitive portrayal of identity and coming of age. It has won several awards, including the Stonewall Book Award for LGBT literature, and has been translated into multiple languages.

In 2021, Sáenz published the much-awaited sequel of the novel Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World, a continuation of Ari and Dante’s journey as they navigate the complicated realms of adulthood, romantic relationships, and the search for meaning and purpose in life.
