Fil-Am singer-songwriter Yeek once asked to write a song for BTS

by Izel Abanilla

Filipino-American singer-songwriter Yeek came close to what any artist could only dream about: he was once asked to make a song for hit South Korean boy band BTS.

Yeek’s music paved the way for what would have been a close encounter with the famous K-pop group whose management reached out to him because of his talent.

“Big Hit Entertainment reached out to me via email, I think last year, to write music for BTS; that’s why I sent a few songs over [but] no feedback yet,” he told republicasia.

Big Hit Entertainment, now Big Hit Music, is a South Korean Entertainment company that signed acts such as BTS and Tomorrow x Together.

“I wrote full songs, ones that were kind of poppy but it wasn’t my style so much, I gave it to them and they sent me some references too. ‘We want some songs that sound like this’ so I made some. Bit Hit, they reached out a couple of times,” he added.

Busy with his music, Yeek knew very little about Korean artistry and had to do some research on who Big Hit Entertainment was. It was only when he did so that he found out they were in fact the label responsible for the career of the seven-piece group.

“I did some research on Google, konti lang and saw they signed BTS. That’s all I know. I don’t know much about the K-pop world but I would be interested in writing music for them,” he said.

Yeek, whose real name is Sebastian Carandang, is currently in the country to establish a career base in the Philippines. Spreading his music throughout the country has always been his wish.

He is the brains behind Spotify hits “Cleaner Air,” “Only in the West,” “Freaky,” “Lumbago” and “Shake.”

He has sold out shows and performances in the US and has maintained a wide listening base on digital streaming apps.
