Eastern Samar wins Miss Universe Philippines 2023 National Costume

A few days leading to the coronation night, Eastern Visayas representative Airissh Ramos won two more minor titles Miss Universe Philippines 2023’s National Costume Competition last Thursday (May 4) in Leyte Normal University in Tacloban City.

Apart from winning the photo shoot challenge, Ramos bagged Best in National Costume in her John Hubert Capito ensemble with an average score of 95.2%. Benguet’s Joemay-an Leo came in second with 93.9% in her Lhee Wel Tokia creation while Southern Leyte’s Kimberly Escartin placed third with 93.3% for her Nick and Daniel Guarino costume. All the three winners each took home a P50,000 cash prize.

The theme for this year’s National Competition is “Ani” or harvest which the 38 delegates vying for the crown showcasing the beauty of Philippine agriculture. 

The National Costume competition had the following criteria: Originality and Creativity (50%), Theme interpretation (30%) and Visual impact (20%).

It was indeed a moment for Ramos as apart from winning the National Costume, she was also Tingog ng Pilipinas Visayas, along with co-winners Krishna Gravidez as Tingog ng Pilipinas Luzon and Jannarie Zarzoso as Tingog ng Pilipinas Mindanao. This time, each of them took home a P100,000 cash prize from the Tingog party list. 

Serving as judges were Voltaire Tayag, Cong. Natasha Co, MUPH national director Shamcey Supsup-Lee, Department of Tourism Region 8 Director Karina Rose Tiopes, Albert Andrada, Raymond Romualdez, Atty. Nad Bronce, actress Karla Estrada, Cong. Lolita Javier and Jonas Gaffud. 

Actor Marco Gumabao hosted the program alongside Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados as pre-show host. 

Pageant fans are in for another pre-coronation hurrah as candidates are set to showcase their talents on May 6, 7 p.m. at the Cove Manila. 

Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi will be crowning her successor on Saturday May 13 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
