Outbound Filipino travelers can now process their departure details online.
This developed after the government on Saturday, April 15, began the full implementation of the eTravel System, which harmonizes and consolidates data collection processes at ports of arrival for purposes of border control, health surveillance, and economic data analysis.
“More than 32,000 arriving foreigners and Filipinos registered for the system while more than 14,000 departing Filipinos logged in the site,” the Bureau of Immigration said on Sunday, April 16, about the first day of the rollout.
Launched in December, the e-Travel System was initially rolled out at the arrival area and was expanded to cover departing travelers.
According to the BI, only outbound Filipino passengers are required to register in the e-Travel system (through etravel.gov.ph) 72 hours but not less than 3 hours before their scheduled departure from the Philippines.
Departing Filipino passengers who will fail to register or update their e-Travel record may do this before undergoing immigration inspection or may fill out departure cards, which are readily available inside the immigration area.
“The paper-based arrival and departure cards can only be used by passengers who are incapable of e-Travel registration [or] in the event that the e-Travel site is inaccessible,” Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said.
On March 31, the BI announced that it would discontinue the use of paper-based departure cards starting May 1.
Meanwhile, all passengers and crewmembers arriving in the Philippines are required to register not earlier than 72 hours from their intended arrival.
Those who fail to do so may be assisted by airline staff upon their arrival and before assessment by the Bureau of Quarantine.
