DOTr OKs interoperability of RFIDs, where to register?

by Jericho Zafra

NO more driving hassles?

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced that the Easytrip tags are interoperable with Autosweep-only tollways, which is good news for drivers who use radio frequency identification (RFID) cards on expressways.

In November 2022, the Toll Regulatory Board announced that by January 2023, it plans to put the second stage of the toll interoperability initiative into effect. The initial part of the toll interoperability project comprises the Easytrip system reading Autosweep tags using two accounts.

Easytrip RFID has only previously been available for usage on a limited number of expressways, including the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), the Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), the C5 Link Flyover, and the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).

For Autosweep-only cardholders, they are only allowed to use the following expressways: South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), NAIA Expressway (NAIAX), and STAR Tollway Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX)

According to the DOTr, drivers who have Easytrip cards can now utilize Skyway (Stages 1, 2, and 3), NAIA Expressway (NAIAX), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), STAR Tollway, and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) after registering.

Where to register your Easytrip sticker?

The DOTR said motorists could register their RFIDs at the following registration sites:

  • Skyway
  • SLEX
  • STAR Tollway
  • TPLEX
  • C5 Office
  • Petron Commerce
  • Petron Dasmarinas
  • Petron La Vista
  • Shell Magallanes
  • Calamba CSC
  • SLEX Greenfields
  • Southwoods NB
  • Sta. Rosa NB
  • Petron KM 44 NB
  • Petron San Pedro
  • Mamplasan SB Exit
  • Star Toll Lipa CSC
  • Petron Lipa
  • Petron Malvar
  • RFID Tplex Office
  • Petron Pura SB
  • Petron Pura NB

Easytrip RFID users who already have Autosweep RFID stickers are no longer required to register, according to the department.

The primary requirements listed by DOTr for the enrollment of RFID stickers are one valid ID, the registered vehicle, and an initial load balance of P200–P500.

Since the rollout of RFIDs, many motorists have called out the limited use of RFIDs since Easytrip card holders have to avail auto-sweep cards in order to enter the expressways using the said tags. Aside from its limited use, motorists are also dissatisfied with the inconsistent readability of RFIDs resulting in long lines.
