FILIPINA actress Dolly de Leon may have failed to take home the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award for best supporting actress, but she remains to hold a distinct honor that makes her compatriots proud.
De Leon was nominated for her performance in “Triangle of Sadness” as yacht staff member Abigail, who leads the group after they were attacked and gets stranded on a deserted island.
She holds the honor of being the first Filipina nominated at the BAFTAs and she holds her head high calling her nomination “a huge honor” and that this “means a lot to her.”
De Leon lost in her category to Kerry Condon of “The Banshees of Inisherin” at the BAFTA Film Awards held in London early Monday morning, Philippines time).
Red carpet interview
In an interview on the red carpet, she said, “They say I’m the first Filipina to be nominated so it’s a huge honor for me, and to be able to be part of a monumental film like ‘Triangle of sadness.'”
“I’m so proud to be here because it was such a great production, and working with Ruben Östlund and Plattform Produktion was such an eye-opening experience for me and really helped me grow as an actor. So I’m really happy to be here.”
Rajo Laurel gown
At the awards ceremony, she wore a gown designed by Filipino designer Rajo Laurel.
Laurel shared in an IG post that the gown is called “Alon (wave).”
“What a great honor it is to be able to dress up the first Filipino to be nominated for the BAFTA awards,” said Laurel in his caption.
“Thank you dearest Dolly de Leon for being an inspiration to all of us Filipinos,” he added.
