Click and go! LTO car, motor registration renewal now online

by Leila Salaverria

ARE you a vehicle owner? The Land Transportation Office has good news for you.

The LTO announced that motor vehicle registration renewal may now be done online.

It may even be completed in as little to five to 10 minutes through the online portal or the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS), according to LTO chief Assistant Secretary Jose Arturo Tugade.

This means that vehicle owners will no longer have to contend with long lines and waits when renewing their vehicle registration.

Online account needed

Vehicle owners must have an account with the LTMS before participating in the online renewal. Only those with a motor vehicle registration record using the LTMS can enjoy this service.

Those whose vehicle registration details still need to be put in the system may head to the LTO district office, where its personnel will help them complete the online transactions.

Once they complete this, they can renew their registration online next year.

The online motor vehicle renewal of registration is only applicable to plain renewal.

But not all steps of the process can be done online. Owners will still be required to bring their vehicles to the Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (PMVIC) to check its roadworthiness.

Here are the steps to renewing your vehicle registration online:

  1. Acquire the motor vehicle certificate of coverage from their insurance company. The certificate of coverage will be electronically transmitted to the LTMS.
  2. Bring the vehicle to the inspection center to ascertain its roadworthiness. The inspection center will electronically transmit the report to the LTMS.
  3. Log in to the LTO portal and begin the online renewal application. The system will automatically input the certificate of coverage number and the inspection number.
  4. Complete the online payment and wait for the system-generated official receipt.

The LTO will email the official vehicle owner’s email. The client can also view the OR through the LTO portal account

Motor vehicle owners should also keep these conditions in mind:

  1. Individuals or a member of an organization must have a registered LTO Portal Account:
  2. The last renewal transaction must be completed using LTMS.
  3. The certificate of registration must reflect the current owner of the vehicle
  4. A PMVIC must be used to acquire the inspection report.
  5. Updated motor vehicle details, including the latest plate issuance.
  6. The certificate of coverage for the insurance must be transmitted or validated by the Insurance Commission.
