A festival for the Philippines’ rich pulutan culture? Count us in!

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) will be holding the first ever Pulutan Fest, a celebration of the diversely unique pulutan culture of the country.

Pulutan is one of the Filipino words that made it to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2017. It is defined as food or snacks provided as an accompaniment to alcoholic drinks. Some popular examples of Filipino-style pulutan are sisig, tokwa’t baboy, bopis, kilawin, lechon kawali, and crispy pata.

This fiesta will take place at the Liwasang Kalikasan CCP Complex on July 22. Gates are open from 3 p.m. to 12 a.m.

“Enjoy flavors that will delight every food lover from the legendary sisig from Makati, viral sisig from Marikina, trending grilled balut from Tondo, all-time favorite isawan from Quezon City, classic ihaw-ihaw from Cavite, and many more mouthwatering treats come together in one place,” CCP wrote in a Facebook post.

Aside from the wide variety of Filipino cuisine and delicacies, the CCP said there would also be live band performances, drink stalls, fiesta games, and raffle prizes for attendees of the Pulutan Fest.

To make this event possible, CCP partnered with the Pasay City local government, Share Your Pulutan Facebook community, and the Pulutan Club.

Organizers said the goal of the event is to provide an avenue for vendors to exhibit their pulutan creation to a wider audience for profit and customer base growth.

“We not only offer them a platform to showcase their unique dishes, but also create an opportunity for them to increase their earnings, expand their customer base, and gain wider recognition,” the organizers wrote in the festival’s official website.

Pulutan Fest will cater to over 50 pulutan vendors that will offer food and drinks including sisig, liempo, chicharon bulaklak, grilled and fried dishes, and burgers, to list a few.

The highlight of the event, on the other hand, is The Pulutan of the Year Awards, where attendees and food influencers will cast their votes to name the first ever People’s Choice Pulutan of the Year and Influencers’ Choice Pulutan of the Year.

Tickets range from P500 for one regular pass to P2,500 for one VIP table. Festival passes can be purchased through the Pulutan Fest’s official website.
