Devotees of the Black Nazarene on Thursday sued before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office drag queen Pura Luka Vega over her controversial performance of a remix version of ”Ama Namin (The Lord’s Prayer)” last month.

The Hijos Del Nazareno Central filed a complaint for violation of Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act against Pura Luka Vega, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagente, and the owner of the establishment where she ”performed the offensive acts.’’

Article 201 of the RPC penalizes immoral doctrines, obscene publications and exhibitions, and indecent shows.

The devotees said they were willing to withdraw the complaint as long as the drag queen apologized for her performance, which showed her dressed as Jesus Christ and singing and dancing to the remix version of Ama Namin.

Pura Luka Vega faces a similar complaint before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

This was filed last month by the Philippines for Jesus Movement, which is made up of leaders of Christian churches in the country.

Pura Luka Vega had said that the performance was not meant to mock the Christian faith and that her intention was ”to challenge our notions of how we worship or how we sing our prayers.”

”I was very careful when I did that because I didn’t want to come across something that was very offensive,” she said. 

Persona non grata

Meanwhile, the Cebu City Council passed a resolution on Wednesday declaring Pura Luka Vega persona non grata due to the incident.

The resolution stated that Pura Luka Vega’s actions ”offended and disrespected social and cultural values related to the religious beliefs of Cebuanos.”

Other local governments that have already declared her persona non grata are Manila, Cagayan de Oro, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, General Santos City, Floridablanca in Pampanga, Toboso in Negros Occidental, and Bukidnon.
