Adrian Insigne, the online influencer is a medical crusader

by Izel Abanilla

With his good looks and big brains, Adrian Insigne can become anything he wants. But after seeing how expensive medical health care in the Philippines is, the 25-year-old medical student from the Far Eastern University – Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation chose to become a doctor for the people.

Insigne uses his Tiktok account to debunk myths and give health tips. And for those who currently have a medical condition, Insigne shares some advice on how to avoid developing further complications. He does this for free.

“Sobrang mahal ng health care sa Philippines, hindi talaga kaya ng tao,” he told republicasia.

His recommendations revolve around promoting one thing: a healthy lifestyle.

“Ang daming sakit na pwede i-prevent through lifestyle change and hindi magawa gawa dahil sa education and of course sa budget so more on debunking the myths and enlightening my patients [is my main focus],” he said.

As a post-graduate intern at East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City, Adrian has seen the worst that could happen if someone could not afford medical treatment.

The shortage of medical staff, especially doctors and nurses in public institutions, does not sit well with him.

“I think the Philippines needs more doctors right now kasi mas dumadami ‘yung nangangailangan kasi ang ratio sa East Avenue, patient to doctor ratio 1 is to 50 or more. Very thankful din ako na nakita ko siya, very enlightened na namulat ako sa reality na ‘to na ganun pala,” he said.

Before achieving online stardom, fate seemed to have shown Insigne that he’s got a spot in the world of fame.

His modeling career started at age 16. A marketing manager approached him inside a plane and asked if he would like to model for clothes.

“Na-meet ko lang ‘yung marketing manager sa plane like katabi ko lang siya. Inask niya if pwede ako mag model. I said, okay why not try new things. That time kasi hindi ko naisip na magiging model ako or content creator,” he said.

Insigne has over 442,300 followers, and is one of the fastest-rising medical superstars on Tiktok.

Aside from health and medical content, Insigne shares snippets of his personal life and the places where he eats or shows he watches.

“Mahilig kasi ako kumain ang magtry ng mga restaurants, post ko din ‘yun. And also nag-ano rin ako ng mga fitness like ‘yung sinabi ko kanina,” he said.

“I like to eat, I like to watch movies and series, hobby ko talaga yan kahit kumakain ako. I like sports, I like to play basketball. Ngayon every Sunday nag ba-basketball na ko with my nephews. I like to travel. Pinupush ko talaga,” he added.

He continues to grow his following on social media. His Instagram following is at 187,000, while his YouTube subscribers is 14,700 as of writing.
