THE independent entertainment company A24 stole the spotlight at the recent 95th Academy Awards for sweeping nine recognitions for its celebrated films Everything Everywhere All At Once and The Whale.
During the awards ceremony on Monday (Philippine time), the indie studio took home nine awards from the 18 nominations it received, including all four acting awards and the best picture award.
This makes A24 the first studio to win every major acting category in the Oscars within the same year.

Multiverse madness
The production house’s Everything Everywhere All At Once was also the most awarded film of the evening after taking home seven trophies.
The top-grossing multiverse hit received the best actress award for Michelle Yeoh while Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis accepted the supporting actor awards.
Meanwhile, the comedy-action science fiction film also took home the awards for best picture, best editing, best writing for original screenplay, and best directing for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.
As of writing, A24’s Everything Everywhere All At Once has become the most awarded film of all time after receiving a total of 168 accolades from major film critics and award-giving bodies worldwide.

Praise for The Whale
A24 also gained two more recognition for the psychological drama film The Whale directed by Darren Aronofsky and written by Samuel D. Hunter. It is based on his 2012 play of the same name.

From humble beginnings
The Manhattan-based film studio specializes in film and television production, as well as film distribution.
Since its establishment in 2010, A24 has been known for producing hip and cutting-edge movies.
In an interview in 2012, one of the A24 founders, Katz, said that the company intends to provide a platform “where the talented people could be talented.”
Aside from Everything Everywhere All At Once and The Whale, A24 also produced films and television series, including Spring Breakers, The Witch, The Carmichael Show, At Home with Amy Sedaris, Ramy, Euphoria, and Mr. Corman.
