Disaster response personnel from Botolan, Zambales rescued eight teachers who became stranded after trying to cross a raging river on Sunday.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in Botolan came to the aid of the teachers, who are from the Maguisguis Integrated School and Burgos Elementary School.
The teachers had tried to cross the river on a cart drawn by a carabao, as seen in a video shared by the Botolan MDRRMO on Facebook.
However, the waters proved too much for them to handle, and they became stranded in the lahar area.
Heavy rain hit Zambales on Sunday, prompting the state weather bureau to issue a yellow warning which meant waters could be expected to rise in flood-prone areas.
The Botolan MDRRMO said that the teachers were able to return home safely.
“Patuloy po natin pinapaalala na manatili na lamang po tayo sa ating mga tahanan sa mga ganitong uri ng panahon at umantabay ng balita ukol sa ulat panahon para sa ating kaligtasan,” it added.
