1.7-M gov’t employees to receive bonus, cash gift starting Nov. 15

by Jericho Zafra

MANILA, Philippines – Starting November 15, about 1.7 million regular employees of the national government will start receiving bonuses worth a month of their salary and an additional P5,000 cash gift, according to the Civil Service Commission (CSC) on Sunday.

CSC Commissioner Aileen Lizada made the announcement in a television interview. Some will get theirs earlier than the others.

“As early as November 15, most likely may mga government agencies nang magrerelease dung sa kanilang empleyado. Depende na rin ‘yan sa executive kung meron pa silang gustong ibigay,” Lizada said.

If they want or can  give more,  the government agency and the Department of Budget and Management will have to decide on that.

“That is really their prerogative in consultation with the DBM,” she said.

But CSC said  that some 600,000 workers who are paid through job orders and contracts of service are not qualified to receive bonuses because they are “not considered as government employees.”

Of the 600,000 workers under JO and COS, about 400,000 work for the local government units (LGUs)  while 200,000 employees are working from different government agencies.

Meanwhile, Lizada said that despite this, the government can still come up with “packages” depending on their consultation with the budget department.
