Typhoon Betty affects 11k people in Luzon, Visayas – NDRRMC

Typhoon Betty (international name: Mawar) has affected 11,264 people or 2,859 families in parts of Luzon and Visayas, government data showed on Tuesday. 

The affected people were recorded in 55 barangays in Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Western Visayas, and the Cordillera Administrative Region, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its 8 a.m. report. 

Twenty-one evacuation facilities housed a total of 3,483 people, or 877 families, while another 381 people, or 112 families, sought safety elsewhere.

The government has already provided P1.897 million worth of assistance, which includes family food packs, hygiene kits, and meals, among others. 

Three road sections were affected, but they are now passable.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, the center of the eye of Betty was located 315 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 185 km/h. 

It was moving west northwestward at 10 km/h.

Batanes and the northeastern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana and Gonzaga), including the Babuyan Islands, remained under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2.

The following areas were placed under TCWS Signal No. 1:

  • The rest of mainland Cagayan;
  • the northern and eastern portions of Isabela (Santo Tomas, Santa Maria, Quezon, San Mariano, Dinapigue, Delfin Albano, San Pablo, Ilagan City, Benito Soliven, Tumauini, Cabagan, Palanan, Quirino, Divilacan, Gamu, Maconacon, Naguilian, Mallig);
  • the eastern portion of Ilocos Norte (Piddig, Bangui, Vintar, Marcos, Pagudpud, Banna, Adams, Carasi, Dingras, Solsona, Dumalneg, Nueva Era);
  • Apayao;
  • the northern portion of Kalinga (City of Tabuk, Balbalan, Pinukpuk, Rizal), and 
  • the northeastern portion of Abra (Tineg, Lacub, Malibcong)
