The gays are winning with queer content this August

JUNE may be the month for the LGBTQIA+ community, but this hasn’t stopped filmmakers and storytellers from releasing queer content at other times of the year.

This August 2023, gays will definitely be winning with the release of two shows with queer content.

Red, White, & Royal Blue

Amazon Prime Video announced that its new movie, Red, White, & Royal Blue, will be released on August 11, 2023.

The movie is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Casey McQuiston. It tells the story of Alex, son of the US president, who is forced to pretend to be friends with the prince of the United Kingdom, Henry, because of his mother’s re-election bid.

The two become friends. But later on, their relationship will blossom into a romance. With the president’s reputation on the line, Alex and Henry’s relationship will be tested.

Red, White, & Royal Blue was published in 2019 but gained popularity on TikTok BookTok where people raved about the story. 

The movie will star Taylor Zhakara Perez (The Kissing Booth 2) as Alex, while Nicholas Galitzine (Purple Heart) will star as Henry. The actors officially announced that the movie was in the works back in June last year.

Heartstopper Season 2

This long awaited coming-of-age series is returning to Netflix!

Heartstopper is based on the comic books by Alice Oseman. 

It tells the story of Charlie who has a crush on his classmate, Nick. The two start out as friends. But later, Nick starts to question his sexuality and his feelings towards Charlie.

The series does not only focus on Charlie and Nick. It also tells the story of their friends Elle and Tao who realize they have feelings for each other, and Tara and Darcy who adjust to their relationship after coming out as a couple.

Season 1 of the series was released in April last year and was a hit among young audiences.

Netflix UK announced that Season 2 will air on August 3, 2023.

The series stars Joe Locke as Charlie, Kit Connor as Nick, Yasmin Finney as Elle, William Gao as Tao, Corinna Brown as Tara, and Kizzy Edgell as Darcy. They will be returning in Season 2 to reprise their roles.
