LOOKING for a way to keep those messages private? WhatsApp has found a way, or so it claims.
Chat application WhatsApp now lets you lock and hide your conversations with its newest feature called “Chat Lock” that’s designed to give users an additional layer of security to secure an even more intimate communication.
As the name suggests, locking a chat “takes that thread out of your inbox and puts it behind its own folder that can only be accessed with your device’s password or biometric like a fingerprint.”

What’s more, for whatever it’s worth, the new feature will save you possible trouble because notifications from password-protected chats will not display message content.
The process isn’t as complicated.
A chat thread can be locked by tapping the name of a one-to-one or group and selecting the lock option. To reveal these chats on the other hand, slowly pull down on your inbox and enter your password or biometric.
The people behind the app believe that this feature is especially ideal for people who share phones from time to time with family members or that moment when someone else holds your phone exactly right on that moment a very private conversation happens.
Although WhatsApp already offers an end-to-end encryption (a security method that keeps your communications secure), it does not apply when someone unlocks access to your phone or your messages. In these instances, the new Chat Lock feature provides an extra layer of protection.
In the coming months, the Meta-owned company is putting more additional secrecy features including locks for companion devices and creating a custom password for your chats so that you can use a unique password different from your phone’s.
BIllionaire Mark Zuckerberg, the Chief Executive Officer of Meta, also announced this new development on Facebook.
