Let’s start with Taylor Swift.

The University of Texas of Austin in the College of Liberal Arts announced on their website in 2022 that you can also study the life of a Pop star, particularly “Focusing on Swift’s music and the cultural contexts in which you can learn about the singer’s writing style, and history.

Recently, the Arizona State University News announced that they opened a course in Psychology entitled Psychology of Taylor Swift — Advanced Topics of Social Psychology in which you can learn about how a song interpretation has an in-depth psychological explanation.

If you are thinking that you just learned about this, think again! Courses like this do not happen only this year; in fact there have been courses about prominent artists that universities offered in the past.

One example of this is the life of American singer-songwriter Beyonce in Copenhagen University.

According to University Post magazine, the courses were about her album Lemonade which tells the horrors that black women experience. The course is called, “Beyoncé, Gender and Race.”

And the list goes on.

As the courses stated, it is not just the life of the prominent artists that will be studied, but the background and history of how they make their music and how it influences society and listeners.

Music is cultural, societal, and not just a rhythm that you always hear. Every lyric from your favorite artists could be a movement for a better generation.
