Quick quide to apply for post-graduate scholarships to Australia

AUSTRALIA has once again opened the application for scholarships for Filipinos who want to study further in Australia.

With so many schools in Australia offering scholarships for Filipinos, one needs to study very carefully what courses to take and if these match their skills and interests.

So if you are open to level up your education Down Under, here is republicasia’s quick guide for you. 

Who are qualified?

The Australia Awards scholarship is open to all Filipino nationals, regardless of age, sex, nationality, ethnicity, gender or disability. They just need to have two years of professional work experience and be in a position to effect “change” to the Philippines.

Applicants should also be a resident of the Philippines for at least 12 months. It is important that the applicants return to the Philippines and use their Australian education for the development of the Philippines.

Priority Australian scholarship grants

The Australian government prioritizes these areas which will be given scholarship grants:

  • Health (including Public Health and Mental Health)
  • Trade and Economics
  • Infrastructure and Smart Cities
  • Digital Economy and Cyber Security
  • Peace and Development
  • Education
  • Governance and Public Policy (including Civil Society and Media)
  • Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Management (including Maritime, Mining, and Energy)
  • Humanitarian, Disaster Risk, and Climate Change Management
  • Law and Justice
  • Foreign Relations

Course and universities to apply to

Applicants can choose which courses they want to apply for. They can search here: http://cricos.education.gov.au/.

If applicants prefer a specific university in Australia, they can refer to this list: www.australian-universities.com/list.

Application date

The application for Australian Awards scholarship for 2024 started last February 1. They will only accept applications until May 1, 2023 at exactly 9:59 pm Manila time.

Online submission

All applications should be submitted online.

Requirements include:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • A re-entry action plan (REAP)
  • Affidavit of citizenship and residency
  • Graduation Certificate (with GWA/GPA indicated)

Panel interview

The Australian Embassy in Manila will sift through the application and will determine who are deemed fit to be scholars. If the applicants are shortlisted, they will be notified for an interview.

Once the applicants pass the interview, they are considered candidates for the scholarship.

Is it a full scholarship?

Australia Awards Scholarships will cover full tuition. For a master’s degree, tuition is valued at up to AUD 200,000 (Php 7.5 million). For a 4-year PhD, it could reach up to AUD 300,000 (Php 11.3 million).
