PVL: Sisi Rondina propels Choco Mucho to victory

by Bryan Gadingan

MOTIVATED by their opening loss against sister team Creamline, Choco Mucho entered the winners’ circle after they went past Farm Fresh on Thursday night in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.

The Flying Titans swept Farm Fresh, 25-18, 25-13, 25-17, largely thanks to Sisi Rondina’s monster 21 points on 17 attacks, three blocks, and an ace, in the game held at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

The University of Santo Tomas standout and former UAAP Most Valuable Player had expressed disappointment over her performance on Sunday, when they suffered a four-set loss to the undermanned Creamline at the Big Dome.

“Stressed talaga ako, umamin ako kay Coach Dante. Lagi akong nag-o-overload sa lahat ng mga skills (kung saan) weak ako,” recalled the outside hitter.

Choco Mucho was caught napping early in Thursday’s game, trailing Farm Fresh 13-18 in the opening set. However, the Flying Titans were able to turn the match around with a ferocious 12-0 run.

“We were a little off at the start, but we were able to recover and win,” said Choco Mucho coach Dante Alinsunurin. “Thankful din ako sa players ko kasi nakuha naman namin ‘yung mga napag-aralan namin.”

Choco Mucho’s Des Cheng finished with 10 points, seven digs, and five receptions. Caitlin Viray and Maddie Madayag each added nine points to Deanna Wong’s 11 outstanding sets. Kat Tolentino also scored all four of her points in the third set.

Trisha Tubu was the bright spot for Farm Fresh, scoring 14 points on 12 attacks. The Foxies are now 0-2 in the second All-Filipino Conference of the PVL.

Choco Mucho, which improved its record to 1-1, will meet Cignal on Thursday at the Ynares Center Antipolo.
