PVL: Aby Maraño, Ara Galang join Chery Tiggo

by Bryan Gadingan

AFTER F2 Logistics was disbanded recently, longtime Cargo Movers Aby Maraño and Ara Galang are set to move to the young Chery Tiggo squad for the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season.

On Tuesday, the Chery Tiggo Crossovers announced on their social media accounts that F2 pioneers Maraño and Galang will join their young core as they attempt to beef up their squad.

The Chery Tiggo Crossovers finished fourth in the 2023 PVL All-Filipino Conference after falling to the Cignal HD Spikers, 18-25, 25-21, 25-22, 26-24, on December 16, 2023.

The arrival of Maraño and Galang will strengthen the Chery team’s core while both veterans are expected to lead a youthful yet tenacious squad.

Maraño has earned a reputation for being a fierce competitor and a passionate leader dating back to her days as a member of the De La Salle Lady Spikers. This is what Crossovers fans can expect from her.

“They’ve known me as a player with a very big heart. Very passionate, vocal, and a leader, so I want them to expect that from me. Going to Chery Tiggo, dadalhin ko lahat ‘yun,” said Tyang Aby.

“At the same time, ‘yung mga players kasi from Chery, nakasama ko na sila from the national team, especially sina Mylene Paat, si Jasmine Nabor, si Shaya (Adorador), si Eya (Laure), (Jennifer) Nierva, and a lot more,” she added.

Maraño said she looked forward to the chemistry they’ve already established during their time in the national team: “So excited ako to be working with these players.”

Meanwhile, Galang, the former PSL Invitational Most Valuable Player, said she was eager to expand and to mentor the younger players in Chery Tiggo.

“I’m very thankful kasi may opportunity na ganito na maglaro sa Chery, and super excited din kasi unang-una, first time ko lang din (may) makasamang iba talaga,” said Galang, who was a pioneer of F2 Logistics.

“So pumunta ako sa team na wala gaanong kakilala. ‘Yung kilala ko lang, si Buding (Duremdes) tsaka si ate Mylene Paat,” she explained in an interview.

Galang promised to keep playing hard for the Crossovers and thanked fans for their unwavering support. “Sa Chery fans, excited akong ma-meet kayo and sana suportahan ni’yo ako and kaming lahat para sa magandang future natin,” she said.

As Dawn Macandili-Catindig joined Cignal HD Spikers and middle blocker Ivy Lacsina joined Nxled Chameleons, the Crossovers’ MVP-caliber pair became the third and fourth ex-Cargo Movers to find new homes in the PVL.

Fans can also expect two esteemed players, Kianna Dy and Majoy Baron, to make their own announcements about which team they’ll play for in the 2024 PVL season, within the next week or so.
