Plane fares set to go up in March

by Carl Santos

AIR passengers will have to pay more for plane tickets if they wish to travel next month.

In an advisory, the Civil Aeronautics Board said it raised the passenger and cargo fuel surcharge for domestic and international flights to Level 6 for March 1–31, 2024, up from the current Level 5.

Depending on the distance, Level 6 fuel surcharges for domestic passenger flights range from P185 to P665, while Level 6 fuel surcharges for international passenger flights departing from the Philippines range from P610.37 to P4,538.40.

Fuel surcharge is a fee that a carrier imposes to account for regional and/or seasonal variations in fuel costs.

Philippine Airlines spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said the company would follow the surcharge matrix for March.

“We enjoin our passengers to book their flights ahead of time to take advantage of low fares,” Cebu Pacific president Xander Lao said.
