Pinoy voters continue to flock to polling precincts for BSKE 2023

by Joanna Deala

A FEW hours before the election day ends, registered voters trooped to the voting precincts to elect barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials on Monday, October 30.

Residents of Malabon City arrived at the Potrero Elementary School to participate in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

Some voters were seen waiting in line outside their precincts, as many residents were still casting their votes at 11:23 a.m. Others were looking for the room assignments of their polling precincts.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has launched the online precinct finder, where voters can input their name, date of birth and place of registration.

But voters at the Potrero Elementary School could ask help in finding their precincts from volunteers of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), stationed at the voters’ assistance desk located at the school’s covered court.

Meanwhile, Pres. Sergio Osmeña High School in Tondo, Manila, was packed with voters at 10:30 a.m. Long lines formed as the residents took some time to find their precincts.

Dozens of voters also flocked to Gregorio Perfecto High School in Tondo, which has the highest number of registered voters in the city.

In Manila City Jail, at least 303 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were able to vote for this year’s BSKE. This is the first time that PDLs casted their vote at the Manila City Jail.

PDLs were also able to cast their votes for the first time in the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

The Comelec earlier said that PDLs are still qualified to vote in the local elections.

Voting temporarily halted in Palawan

The casting of votes in two polling precincts in Palawan was temporarily halted after official ballots were destroyed by supporters of a politician, according to reports.

Comelec chair George Garcia said these polling sites were located at Puerto Princesa Pilot Elementary School in Palawan.

He added that authorities have arrested these individuals. Garcia also said that residents who will cast their votes in the area will be listed down.

“After ng 3 p.m. na voting, yung mga hindi nagamit [na balota] ng mga neighboring na precincts ang gagamitin,” he said.

The voting for the BSKE 2023 closes at exactly 3 p.m. nationwide.
