Philippine Book Festival to take place in June and August

by Joyce Remo

The country’s largest traveling book festival will kick off this June at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay, the National Book Development Board (NBDB) announced on Wednesday.

From June 2 to 4, Filipino bookworms will get to enjoy various book-related activities during the Philippine Book Festival

Meanwhile, its second edition will take place at SMX Davao from August 18 to 20, according to the National Museum in a separate post.

This event is open to the general public and free of charge.

The Philippine Book Festival has partnered with the Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), National Library of the Philippines, Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), Philippine Educational Publishers Association (PEPA), The Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY), Komiket, and Savage Mind: Arts, Books, Cinema.

Workshops, seminars, and debates

The Philippine Book Festival will give participants the opportunity to join writing workshops that will help them sharpen their skills and learn from the experts in the industry.

“If you’re an aspiring writer, our book festival is the perfect place to learn from experts and hone your craft,” NBDB wrote.

They may also participate in seminars that will cover various topics, including decolonizing reading, Filipino publishing, and cross-media adaptation, among others.

Bookworms will also have the chance to explore the wonders of Philippine literature through literary discussion and debate with their fellow book lovers.

Meet and greet Filipino authors

Attendees can also meet their favorite local authors and get the chance to have their copies signed during the book festival.

New titles and exciting performances

And since it’s a book fair, Filipino authors and creators will also be showcasing their new works.

“Explore new and diverse titles across all genres. With hundreds of publishers participating, you’ll be sure to find something that suits your taste,” NBDB wrote.

Participants may also dive into the techy world of digital publishing and e-books as they enjoy live performances by actors and storytellers.

Further, there will be an available book nook for attendees who would like to immerse themselves in the magic of books.

The event organizers also prepared a program for families who will attend the book fair.

“We have programs just for families! Join in on storytelling sessions, create your own family book, and enjoy special tours,” it said.
