Slater Young sorry for remarks on men fantasizing about other women

by Joyce Remo

FILIPINO entrepreneur and content creator Slater Young has apologized for his recent comment that it is okay for men to still “fantasize” about other women although they are in a committed relationship.

In his most recent Skypodcast episode with his wife Kryz Uy titled Addressing the Issue, the couple discussed the circumstance that sparked heated debates online.

Young also said sorry for his misogynistic remark from the previous and now-deleted episode, emphasizing that he is not in favor of objectifying women.

“I truly, truly do apologize in my heart of hearts. Hindi talaga ako pro objectifying women,” he said.

Although it has been hard, the influencer said the situation was an eye-opening experience for him as it took him a while to process what happened.

“Sometimes you think that you did something okay. It takes a little while for it to sink in na, ‘Oo nga, ‘no? Mali pala talaga ako,’” he said.

He further added that he felt as if he was in a bubble because he can’t see what people are seeing. Young also admitted being defensive about his comment on the controversial podcast episode.

It also took a lot of reading comments and articles online for Young to understand the case.

“Parang medyo feeling ko nasa bubble ako na hindi ko nakikita kung ano yung nakikita ng iba,” he said. “I finally realize na, ‘Oh my God, yeah, I really made a mistake because I’m giving it power na to say it’s okay.’”

The Pinoy Big Brother: Unlimited 2012 winner also confessed he felt ashamed of his remarks. He said he should have been a better example for others because he realized his words might be used as an instrument to give grounds for objectifying women.

“I’m giving it power na to say it’s okay. And me saying it’s normal kind of normalizes it and makes it okay,” said Young.

“I should have set a better example. I should have called it out na parang, ‘Yeah, it happens but this isn’t okay.’ We should hold ourselves to a higher standard,” he added.

But the last thing in his mind and my heart would be to objectify women, he explained.

Uy backed up her husband, saying that she knows the latter isn’t someone who observes this kind of problematic behavior.

But she advised Young to be more cautious with the words he uses.

Everything you upload on the internet stays forever

Aside from the realizations, Young and his wife said they wish there was a delete button to scrape off the mistake he committed.

“I feel ashamed, na parang naqquote ako ng ganyan and like parang, ‘This is not me and I wish I could take it back,’” said Young.

However, she also noted that everything you upload on the internet stays there forever.

Being mindful

Due to the flak he drew from netizens, Young said he realized the weight of his words to his audiences. He said that given the platform he has, he should be more watchful of how he perceives the world.

“It’s a learning experience for me especially given the platform that we have. Parang it’s something to move forward and grow on and like parang kailangang mas malalim yung pag-intindi ko on how my words can have a lot of repercussions,” he said.

Uy also said that both of them should be heedful of the pieces of advice they provide their listeners, highlighting that their joint podcast is no longer a conversation between the two of them as it also influences those who listen to them.

“And then we have to be careful about how they understand it,” she added.
