It was a childhood dream come true for R&B singer-songwriter Maki to enter the OPM scene.
From a kid who kept on pushing to realize his goal, Maki has now been raking in thousands of streams for his songs, which many people can resonate with.
One of these is Saan?, his most recent single, an upbeat but heartbreaking song that is sure to cause listeners to think back on their lost love. He serenaded students at the “Lead Like A Pro” summit hosted by RepublicAsia and iAcademy on May 12 in Makati with this song.
This alternative-pop track was released two years following his debut single, Halaga, under his label Tarsier Records. The record label became Maki’s bridge to introduce his musical artistry to the public.

Pursuing the dream
Since he was young, Maki has always had a clear vision of what he wants to achieve.
“Longtime dream ko na siya ever since I was a kid. Alam ko sa sarili ko na magiging musician ako,” he told RepublicAsia in an interview following his performance at the summit.
This became the singer-songwriter’s fuel to set out on his journey to the Philippine music scene; however, it was not a smooth start for Maki, who pushed his luck in multiple auditions but to no avail.
“Sa dami ng obstacles nung time na nag-audition ako akala ko hindi siya meant for me but sabi nga, kailangan mong i-push ‘to if you want it. Kailangan mong labanan ‘yung adversities in life. If that’s your dream, go, do it,” he said.
Maki did not stop pursuing his goal until an opportunity came knocking on his door that could turn his dream into reality.
“I got scouted ng Tarsier Records. Doon talaga siya nag-start and first nung time na ‘yon, hindi pa dapat ako exclusively artist nila, but as time goes by, nagustuhan nila ako and you know, I’m super, super grateful sa label ko,” Maki said.
Discography that brings all the feels
Based on Maki’s bio on Spotify, the young musician aims to write songs “that will make people feel understood with melodies that bring good memories, peace, and calmness.”
In 2021, the R&B singer released Halaga and as the title suggests, the song talks about someone’s importance and that there will always be a person who appreciates their existence.
He then co-wrote another heartfelt single, Para Sa Buwan, which delivers the message that there are no regrets in real love.
Butterflies will fly in your stomach in Maki’s collaboration song with LA-based duo KaixAaron, Thinkin’ Bout Your Smile. It’s a song with English and Tagalog lyrics that gives the listener the feeling of being in love.
Maki’s other collaboration track is with his labelmate and singer-songwriter Gessie and is titled Better, a relatable song about moving forward to a better phase after being in a relationship.
Maki also turned Sheryn Regis’ Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw into a smooth R&B version that has now gained hundreds of thousands of streams.
New project
Maki is currently working on another project.
There are no further details about it yet, but Maki revealed that it is one of his dream projects as a musician and a creative artist.
“We’ve been working on a project na talagang feeling kong magugustuhan ng mga listeners, and kung saan ‘yung simula nung project na ‘yan,” he said.
“I hope I can announce it soon na, but this project is really big and sana, i-look forward niyo ‘yon,” he added.
