IT has been months since Darna ended, but shippers of the Darlentina tandem still couldn’t move on from the unexpected chemistry between actresses Jane de Leon and Janella Salvador.
This was evident during the latest TikTok live of the two Darna stars, also known as JaneNella, where their fans asked them about the possibility of working on a Girls’ Love or GL project.
“GL daw, GL, GL, GL, GL,” Salvador said, as she read the comments popping up on the screen.
De Leon chimed in and asked the netizens to “relax” first as they had just started the TikTok live.
“Follow niyo muna siya sa TikTok,” she said, referring to Salvador.
Salvador, meanwhile, gave a hopeful answer to their fans’ question.
“Magtiwala kayo sa amin. Magtiwala lang kayo sa amin,” she said.
She continued, “Ang masasabi ko lang, what’s meant to be will be.”
JaneNella shippers assured the two actresses that they would wait for the good news.
“Tiwala po talaga,” one TikTok user said.
Another netizen commented, “May tiwala ako sa inyo huhuhu aasa na naman ako eh.”
The two actresses earlier expressed their willingness to do a GL project together after many noticed their chemistry in Darna.
Salvador said that the support from the Filipino audience, particularly the LGBTQIA+community, for the JaneNella tandem made her happy.
“I think it would matter a lot to the community nga, simply because wala pa ngang magandang representation for that aspect kaya open ako and willing ako, wholeheartedly, I would do it talaga,” she said.
De Leon also hopes to get a good story if ever she and Salvador would be given a GL project.
“It’s all about the craft din naman, ‘di ba? Kasi artist din kami. So, challenge din yun sa amin if ever,” she said.
JaneNella roots
In the TV series Darna, De Leon and Salvador’s characters weren’t paired romantically.
De Leon played the role of a young emergency medical technician named Narda, who transforms into superhero Darna by swallowing a powerful stone that gives her extraordinary strength.
Salvador portrayed snake-haired Valentina, the hero’s archenemy and the alter ego of young lawyer Regina.
While De Leon’s leading man in the series was actor Joshua Garcia, viewers could not help but notice the chemistry between Narda and Regina when the characters developed a close friendship.
Darlentina endgame
Many netizens even hoped for a plot twist in the superhero series, wherein Narda and Regina would fall for each other.
Several clips of their scenes even trended on X (formerly Twitter), as fans gushed over the dynamics of the two actresses.
The Darna stars thrilled their shippers more through a “fruity” exchange on X, where De Leon posted, “Pakagat ako Valentina!” This was after the episode that showed Salvador’s first appearance of Valentina.
Netizens went into a frenzy when Salvador replied, “Be careful what you wish for, Darna.”
Perhaps excited for a possible romantic team up of the two, fans even created a fake trailer of a GL series starring De Leon and Salvador. They used spliced clips from Darna and titled it I Fell For My Boss.
