by Izel Abanilla

The showbiz industry is, arguably, one of the worst places where people are objectified and upheld to the most unrealistic beauty standards. But recently, a steady stream of celebrities are coming forward to stop the spread of hate on social media.

Let’s take a look at some of the stars who dared champion body positivity, and spread the beauty of self-love.

  1. Ria Atayde

Actress Ria Atayde is one of the strongest advocates of body positivity. To show that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, she was launched as the calendar girl of a liquor brand.

Her calendar cover gained massive support online as netizens praised the actress for having the courage to stand up against bullying.

  1. Michelle Gumabao

Overachiever Michelle Gumabao is an inspiration to many. She is a volleyball star, a pageant runner-up, and a social media star. But her achievements weren’t enough to shield her from vicious online attacks, especially the ones targeting her physical looks.

Once she slammed bashers who ceaselessly criticized her for having a “muscular” frame.

“Transitioning from being a professional volleyball player to beauty pageants, I was and still am being criticized for being too big or too muscular.”

She revealed that she was being mocked for having “big” legs.

“My legs are too big, they say. Honestly they really are. Instead of being insecure about it, which is a constant battle of choice, I just remind myself that these legs got me through years of intense volleyball, allowed me to jump, play and win,” she added.
