by RepublicAsia

E-SPORTS personalities paid tribute to Rob Luna, one of the most popular shout casters of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League  Philippines (MPL PH), who passed away on Tuesday, February 28.

His partner, blogger JB Torres, couldn’t believe she would wake up without Luna by her side.

The family was mum on the cause of Luna’s death. MPL Philippines also did not disclose it when they announced his death over Twitter.

“The MPL Philippines and the MLBB community deeply mourn the passing of Rob Luna, as confirmed by his family. He was one of the casters of the MPL Philippines who have made remarkable contributions to what the league is today,” the MPL said.

Lingering illness

ML streamer Bennette Prof. B. Felix shared in his Facebook account that Luna suffered a lingering illness that he kept from the public.

“Nilaban niya yung sakit niya at request niya na wag ilabas sa public kasi ayaw niya nang pinag kakaguluhan siya at matapang si Rob na labanan ito,” Felix said.

Felix said he and Luna were best of friends since college in 2007.

Felix also shared a photo of the billing statement from the Lung Center of the Philippines.

In a phone interview, Felix told republicasia that the Mobile Legends shout caster died of cardiac arrest.

When Luna was rushed to the hospital three weeks ago, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.

“Pagdating sa hospital, nilagyan na ng mga tubo,” he said.

When asked which part of the body was afflicted with cancer, Felix replied, “Sabi ng mga doktor, hindi na importante. Kasi sobrang kalat na.”

Felix said he already asked permission from Luna’s family to reveal his illness to stop disinformation in the social media.

Outpouring of condolences

E-sports organizations and MPL-PH teams, TNC, and Blacklist International offered their condolences as they posted their tributes to him.

“Throughout his life, Rob accomplished so much and left an indelible mark on the eSports industry.”

“He was a true icon and a visionary whose talents and contributions transcended the ML community,” TNC Pro Team—ML wrote on their Facebook page.

“We pay tribute and honor a close friend. We would like to offer our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to his family and friends. Rest in Paradise, Rob,” Blacklist International wrote.

Famous PH gaming streamers like Edgar “ChooxTV” Dumali also looked back when the caster believed and uplifted his confidence during an event he hosted.

He wrote, “Napaka solid mong tao. Nakasama kita last time bilang host sa isang event ng Realme. Kinakabahan ako noon pero nandyan ka na binigyan ako ng lakas. Lahat ng maging linya ko sana sinalo mo na para lang maging komportable ako.”

Members of the community eventually honored the late MPL Shoutcaster.

Tryke Gutierez, founder of Tier One Entertainment, expressed his gratitude, reminded people how to treasure every moment they share with their loved ones.

“Rest in Peace, Rob Luna. Time and time again, this world reminds us of how short life is. Never miss a moment to tell those around you how much you care for them while they’re still here.”

Masasabi ko na si Rob din ang nagdala ng New flavor or Meta sa MLBB scene dahil siya yung shoutcaster na gusto rin mag grow sa Youtube at iba pang plaforms.” Bennette “Prof B” Felix’s heartfelt post on his Facebook account.

MPL Casters, streamers, and other known personalities in the PH gaming industry, including Mara Aquino, Wolf Nopuento, Naisou Rezabek, Nico Enzon, and Enrico Jerome “BoarKnock” Toliongco, also offered their condolences and shared their sentiments and happy memories spent with the former MPL shoutcaster.
