November 19 weather: LPA less likely to strengthen, but rains still expected over several regions

by Leila Salaverria

BRING umbrellas and raincoats if you’re going out today, and watch out for possible landslides in some areas.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected today over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol, Mimaropa, Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the southern portion of Aurora, the state weather bureau reported.

Flash floods or landslides are possible due to moderate with at times heavy rains, especially in areas highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration.

Pagasa advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices to take all necessary measures to protect life and property.

Why is it rainy?

The rains are due to the intertropical convergence zone and the low pressure area east of General Santos City.

An ITCZ is a belt of converging trade winds and brings cloudy skies and rains.

Pagasa said the low pressure area is embedded along the ITCZ, but it is less likely to develop into a tropical depression and could dissipate in the next 48 hours.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, and flash floods or landslides are possible during severe thunderstorms.

Coastal waters

Extreme Northern Luzon will have moderate to rough coastal waters, and the wind speed will be moderate to strong.

The rest of the country will have slight to moderate waters, and the wind speed will be light to moderate.

Temperature check

The temperature in Metro Manila will range from 24 to 30 degrees Celsius, while for Tuguegarao it will be from 23 to 30 degrees Celsius.

In Baguio, it will range from 16 to 23 degrees Celsius and for Tagaytay, from 22 to 28 degrees Celsius.

The temperature for Cebu will be from 26 to 29 degrees Celsius, and for Davao City it will be from 26 to 31 degrees Celsius.
