DUE to the continuous heavy downpour in the country, more classes have been suspended in several areas on Monday, July 21.
In the National Capital Region (NCR), several local government units (LGUs) suspended afternoon in-person classes at all levels in public and private schools, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA):
- Manila City – Starting 12 p.m.
- San Juan City – Starting 12 p.m.
- Parañaque City
- Taguig City
- Caloocan City
- Pasay City
- Muntinlupa City
- Las Piñas City
Meanwhile, the Makati City government suspended the afternoon classes of daycare and Grade 1 to 12 students in public and private schools.
In Marikina City, face-to-face and online afternoon classes are suspended in both public and private schools.
The municipality of Pateros suspended all classes from pre-school to senior high school (SHS) in public and private schools, starting at 10 a.m.
In Mandaluyong City, afternoon classes from pre-school to Grade 12, including alternative learning system (ALS), in public and private schools will not push through.
In-person classes from Kinder to SHS, early childhood care development, and ALS in public and private schools in Pasig City are suspended.
Moreover, the Malabon City government suspended classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and ALS in all public and private schools.
The Quezon City government said classes in child development centers, kindergarten to SHS, and ALS in public schools are automatically suspended once an orange heavy rainfall warning is raised.
It added that the suspension of classes in private schools and higher education institutions will be at the discretion of their respective school administrations. However, they are advised to adhere to national or local suspension.
Orange rainfall warning
As of 10:45 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised an orange rainfall warning in Metro Manila, Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, Bataan, and several areas in Batangas (Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan, Tuy, Balayan, Calaca, Laurel, Lemery, Talisay, Tanauan) and Laguna San Pedro, Santa Rosa, Binan, Cabuyao, Calamba).
Meanwhile, the yellow rainfall warning covers the following areas:
- Tarlac
- Laguna (Alaminos, Bay, Calauan, Liliw, Los Banos, Luisiana, Magdalena, Majayjay, Nagcarlan, Pagsanjan, Pila, Rizal, San Pablo, Santa Cruz, Victoria, Cavinti, Famy, Kalayaan, Lumban, Mabitac, Paete, Pakil, Pangil, Santa Maria, Siniloan)
- Batangas (Lipa, Santo Tomas, Malvar, Balete, Mataasnakahoy, San Jose, Cuenca, San Pascual, Alitagtag, Bauan, Mabini, Tingloy, San Luis, Santa Teresita, Taal, Agoncillo, San Nicolas)
PAGASA also said light to moderate with occasional heavy rains will be experienced over Quezon, Nueva Ecija, and a portion of Batangas (Batangas City, Ibaan, Labo, Padre Garcia, Rosario, San Juan, and Taysan).
