Yulo Secures Podium Spot with Strong Floor Exercise Performance

by Bryan Gadingan

CARLOS YULO concluded his floor exercise final stint at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships with an impressive showing, earning a place on the podium on Friday in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist captured the bronze medal in the men’s floor exercise after posting a total score of 14.533 in the finals, highlighted by a 5.9 difficulty rating and an execution score of 8.566.

Yulo’s performance placed him third behind Great Britain’s Jake Jarman and Luke Whitehouse. Jarman secured the gold medal with a score of 14.866, while Whitehouse claimed silver with 14.666.

“I have no regrets, I did my best and gave my all but Jarvis and Luke just happened to be better today. I am grateful that I reached two apparatus and that is a big plus for me,” Yulo said.

The International Gymnastics Federation described Yulo’s execution as a “2.5 twist to front double pike, small hop. Double layout double full out, small shuffle back. 3.5 twist side pass. Front double twist to front layout. Stuck double layout full out.”

Friendly Battle

Although missing out on the top prize is always disappointing, losing to Jarman—who shares Filipino heritage through his mother from Cebu—softens the blow, as it adds another chapter to their friendly rivalry.

“This gold is quite special since I fancy myself to be a floor exercise guy and winning this is a validation of that,” Jarman said, sharing his emotions after finishing on top of the said event.

The floor exercise and vault are the same events where he claimed gold at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, making history for the Philippines. His continued success in these events further cements his legacy as one of the nation’s greatest gymnasts.

Now, the “Golden Boy” will shift his full attention to another quest: the vault finals—after also advancing to this round. “There is still the vault finals and I aim to do better than today,” Yulo added.
