SOME things stay the same no matter what. That was made clear once more as double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo clinched his fourth consecutive gold at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships.
After months of being out from the artistic gymnastics spotlight, the double Olympic gold medalist made a thunderous return, picking up right where he left off following his historic showing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Yulo dominated his signature event, the floor exercise, during Saturday afternoon’s competition in Jecheon, South Korea. The Filipino star delivered a flawless routine that left his opponents far behind.
He’s Back!
Yulo surged ahead midway through the event with a routine that carried a difficulty score of 5.700. He nailed the execution, earning the highest mark of 8.800 among the eight-man field — enough to push him firmly into the lead.
He finished with a total score of 14.600, aided by a bonus awarded for his clean execution, allowing him to take control of the leaderboard and stay on top for the rest of the match.
Close behind was Kazakhstan’s Karimi Milad, who made a late push with his own routine. He posted a total score of 14.400 but trailed in execution with 8.600 — just short of matching Yulo’s precision.
Rounding out the podium was Korea’s Moon Geonyoung, who landed in third place with a score of 14.003. Despite a solid execution mark of 8.633, he lost ground due to a lower difficulty and a 0.3 deduction.
Yulo is set to compete again later today in the still rings final. He has reached five apparatus finals in this year’s championships, missing out only in the pommel horse.
The Filipino now has two medals in the 2025 Asian Championships — having earlier bagged a bronze in the men’s all-around with a score of 83.633, just a few points shy of gold and silver.
