THE date for one of the most anticipated events on the UAAP schedule has been announced. This year’s UAAP Cheerdance Competition will take place in the SM Mall of Asia Arena on December 1.

More than the passion that UAAP supporters have for mainstream sports, particularly the ongoing basketball season, cheerdance is an event that brings all universities and their students together at one location.

Rod Roque, tournament director and University of the East’s delegate to the UAAP Board of Managing Directors, was thrilled to see the jaw-dropping and heart-stopping event return.

“The UAAP CDC for this season promises bigger, better, and more spectacular performances from all eight schools as they prepare stronger, better, and together for one of the league’s biggest events,” said Roque.

A must-see TV

The rivalry will be fierce, with the FEU Cheering Squad looking for their third title in four seasons and the NU Pep Squad leading the charge to dethrone the defending champions and recover the top spot.

Last year, FEU demonstrated its versatility by dominating the categories of tumbling, tosses, and pyramids with its video game-inspired performance, which deviated from its prior themes that focused on pop culture.

NU dominated the stunt section with a high-risk, high-reward performance inspired by the King of Rock and Roll himself, Elvis Presley, with the all-time classic “Blue Suede Shoes” capping their set.

The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe, who performed last, had their work cut out for them as they danced to K-Pop group Blackpink for 684 points, their second consecutive bronze medal.

Moreover, NU will compete for a league-tying eighth CDC title, while the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe and the UP Varsity Pep Squad will try to break their tie at the top of the all-time standings.

The Adamson University Pep Squad, on the other hand, provides a formidable challenge, looking to build on the momentum of their maiden title victory in 2017.

The UE Pep Squad, DLSU Animo Squad, and ADMU Blue Eagles are prepared to perform their new routines in front of a sold-out audience at the bayside Pasay venue.

Meanwhile, the order of performance has yet to be announced and will be determined by a drawing of lots at a later news conference. One thing is certain: this year’s cheerdance will be a fierce competition.
