THE Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is one with the Filipinos, especially those residing in Luzon heavily devastated by severe tropical storm Kristine.
On Thursday, the league announced that the profits from the first Finals Game between Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel and TNT Tropang Giga will be used to assist the victims of the storm.
The league reaching out
This was made public by league chairman Ricky Vargas and vice chairman Alfrancis Chua at the championship series press conference held at Enderun Colleges in Taguig City.
“Nag-usap kami ni commissioner [Willie Marcial], chairman [Ricky Vargas], we decided ‘yung Sunday’s game, ‘yung proceeds no’n lahat ido-donate namin. Lahat ‘yon,” said Chua.
“Nandito tayo, preparing for Sunday’s game. And them, they’re there preparing kung may matitirhan sila or makakain pa. Ipagdasal natin sila,” he added.
Chua is also requesting other individuals or league members to help them gather funds for the victims, saying, “Kung sino pang gustong tumulong, nananawagan po ako na tulungan natin ang ating mga kapatid.”
Meanwhile, Vargas stated that the donations will be routed through TV5’s Alagang Kapatid Foundation. On Sunday, October 27, Justin Brownlee’s Ginebra will face Rondae Hollis-Jefferson’s TNT in Game 1 of the Finals.
It’s the Finals
Tropang Giga was the first to go to the finals, defeating the young squad of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters 4-1. While the Gin Kings defeated the San Miguel Beermen 4-2, in a nail-biting Game 6.
After tarnishing Brownlee’s finals record, Hollis-Jefferson will seize this opportunity to establish his reputation as one of the best imports to ever grace the PBA hardcourt.
Meanwhile, the Ginebra import is more than eager to exact sweet revenge on his opponent and become the winningest import in PBA history, breaking a tie with former PBA great import Sean Chambers for six titles.
Following the Season 47 Governors’ Cup Finals, Gilas and Jordan faced off in the gold medal game of the 19th Asian Games in China, which the Philippine team won by a score of 70-60.
The forthcoming showdown, which will take place at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, will mark Brownlee and Hollis-Jefferson’s third time competing for a title.
Given the developing rivalry and rich history between the two star imports, the PBA Finals will undoubtedly be must-see television. Making it more significant is the league’s initiative to assist Kristine PH victims.
