Honoring Gold and Glory: PHLPost Issues 2024 Olympics Stamps

by Bryan Gadingan

THE Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has issued a set of special edition stamps honoring the Filipino athletes who represented the country proudly at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

PHLPost confirmed on Thursday that two-time gold medalist artistic gymnast Carlos Yulo, as well as bronze medalist boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, will each receive their own commemorative stamp.

The news was made at the 2025 National Philatelic Exhibition (NaPEX), which was co-launched by PHLPost and the Philippine Philatelic Federation Inc. (PPFI) in Lucky Chinatown, Manila.

Inside the stamps are Yulo, Petecio, and Villegas’ dramatic images from their historic victories, created by PHLPost’s artist Jose Antonio Jayme.

Honor the Great

After over a year, and despite the numerous incentives they’ve already gotten from various private and public sectors, it’s still incredible to watch how these athletes are remembered.

Meanwhile, despite being unable to attend the ceremony, Golden Boy Yulo conveyed his appreciation via a pre-recorded message, describing the tribute as “malaking inspirasyon, malaking karangalan.”

Furthermore, as described by Luis Carlos, the postmaster general and CEO of PHLPost, commemorative stamps are more than simply stamps; they tell stories of dedication, hard effort, and national pride.

“We are gathered here to pay tribute to the incredible achievement of our Philippine athletes,” he told the media.

Cynthia Carrion, head of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP), recalls a golden memory: “When you become an Olympian, the whole Philippines and the whole world will know you.”

Stamp with Purpose

PSC Commissioner Walter Torres stressed that the sale of each special release stamp will assist shape and fund Philippine sports, as well as provide support for the country’s future champions.

The entire sheet of postage stamps is on sale for P100 to P268 and will be available at all PHLPost locations nationwide. The government also stated that it plans to sell the stamps online.

Postmaster General Carlos also said that the collection had been in the works since last year, but they found the ideal opportunity to officially unveil it during the aforementioned event.

The 2025 NaPEX will showcase various philatelic collections and designs in the Philippine context from April 23 to 25, 2025, with this year’s subject being “Echoes of the past, visions of the future.”
