Champion Coaches Take the Spotlight in Collegiate Press Corps

by Bryan Gadingan

BEHIND every fearless athlete is a coach who never allowed them to settle for less. At this year’s 2025 Collegiate Press Corps (CPC) Awards, these brilliant tacticians will finally get their well-earned spotlight after guiding their teams through remarkable seasons.

The annual ceremony honors not only the players who brought each game plan to life but also the minds that orchestrated those winning moments — the coaches whose vision turned goals into reality.

After a year filled with drought-breaking, redemptive, and dominant title runs, champion mentors from UAAP Season 87 and NCAA Season 100 will be recognized in the 2025 CPC Awards Night.

These top basketball and volleyball coaches from UAAP and NCAA await the prestige of being named “Coach of the Year” at the awards night to be held at Discovery Suite in Ortigas, Pasig City.

Brilliant Minds Behind the Wins

Leading the pack, Goldwin Monteverde of the UP Fighting Maroons will once again be hailed ‘UAAP Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year’ after steering his team to redemption against the DLSU Green Archers.

On the NCAA front, the same honor will go to Randy Alcantara of the Mapua Cardinals, who ended a 33-year title drought by beating sister team Benilde Blazers in a historic championship run.

For the women’s division, NU Lady Bulldogs head coach Aris Dimaunahan will be named ‘UAAP Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year’ after reclaiming the title from UST Growling Tigresses, denying them an 8-peat finish.

NU’s Sherwin Meneses also earns honors as ‘UAAP Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year’ after pulling off a rare back-to-back triumph over the DLSU Lady Spikers in dominant fashion.

Joining him is Dante Alinsunurin, who will be named ‘UAAP Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year’ for leading a stunning reverse sweep over the top-seeded FEU Tamaraws and claiming a fifth straight title.

In NCAA Women’s Volleyball, Jerry Yee of the Benilde Lady Blazers secures the ‘Coach of the Year’ award after completing a dominant four-peat campaign against the Letran Lady Knights.

Capping off the lineup, Bryan Vitug of the Arellano Chiefs earns the ‘NCAA Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year’ award after guiding his team to a historic breakthrough championship win.
