CARLOS YULO wrapped up his campaign at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships — his first competition since the 2024 Paris Olympics — on a high note, earning two more podium finishes on Sunday.
After nearly a year away from the international spotlight, the Philippines’ pride returned to form, once again making his mark and proudly representing the nation.
In front of a crowd in Jecheon, South Korea, Yulo added two bronze medals to his growing haul, placing third in both the vault and parallel bars events — just a day after clinching his fourth consecutive floor exercise gold.
Podium Secured
Though a podium finish in vault was a strong way to cap off his run, Yulo saw his streak of three straight vault golds in the Asian Championships end, settling for bronze this time around.
Iran’s Mahdi Olfati emerged as the vault champion with a total score of 14.500, followed by China’s Huang Mingqi with 14.400, while Yulo scored 14.333 across his two attempts.
This bronze was Yulo’s third medal of the meet, joining his earlier bronze in the individual all-around and gold in floor exercise. He later earned another bronze in the parallel bars with a 14.166 total score.
While his bars routine lacked the same difficulty as his rivals — scoring just 5.500 in difficulty — Yulo delivered a clean execution, notching an 8.566 execution score plus a 0.100 bonus.
Japan dominated the parallel bars podium, with Shinnosuke Oka (14.700) and Tomoharu Tsunogai (14.466) claiming gold and silver, respectively. Yulo, unable to defend his three-year reign in the event, had to settle for third.
In his other event finals, Yulo placed seventh in both the horizontal bar and rings with scores of 12.000 and 13.233. Meanwhile, in the junior ranks, his younger brother Karl Eldrew captured a silver medal in vault.
All in all, Yulo wraps up this year’s Asian Championships with one gold and three bronze medals. While not all results met expectations, he delivered commendable routines and upheld his reputation as one of Asia’s top gymnasts.
