Another Day, Another Win: SGA Extends Winning Streak to Five

by Bryan Gadingan

ANOTHER DAY, another win in the column. Philippine squad Strong Group Athletics (SGA) pushed their unbeaten streak to five, cruising past Chinese Taipei-White, 107-75, on Thursday in the 44th William Jones Cup.

With fans packed into the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City, Strong Group delivered a commanding and balanced showing performance to preserve their flawless 5-0 record.

SGA had six players scoring in double figures during a red-hot shooting night. The win also marked their 13th consecutive victory in the tournament, dating back to last year’s championship sweep.

Commanding Display

Strong Group came out firing, jumping to a 39-24 lead before unleashing a 22-9 blitz—highlighted by an 11-point flurry from Tajuan Agee—to grab full control with a 61-33 halftime cushion.

The squad’s explosive start clearly set the tone. Ian Miller ignited an eight-point run in the third quarter, helping maintain a 28-point margin, 82-54, heading into the final period.

DJ Fenner capitalized on his brief floor time in the fourth, knocking down key shots to keep the gap wide at 87-61 with under five minutes left, effectively locking in Strong Group’s fifth straight win.

Agee led the charge with 25 points on an ultra-efficient 10-of-12 shooting, adding six boards, three assists, two steals, and a block—all in just 15 minutes and 32 seconds of first-half brilliance.

“Played great today. Guys were locked in from the start,” SGA head coach Charles Tiu said after the game. “Tajuan Agee was great and dominated them from the start. Best offensive basketball for us.”

Beyond Agee’s scorching outing, the team’s collective hustle—highlighted by unselfish ball movement and relentless pursuit of rebounds—played a major role in their strong overall showing.

“We are getting better every game,” Tiu added, as reported by the Tiebreaker Times. “Twenty-seven assists and finally double-digit three-pointers made. It was a satisfying performance.”

Meanwhile, Miller chipped in 13 points and grabbed three rebounds, while Javi Gomez de Liaño kept his momentum going with a double-double—12 points on 4-of-8 shooting along with 11 rebounds.

With Andre Roberson coming in well-rested, Strong Group Athletics aims to stay perfect as they take on Malaysia today at 3:00 p.m., continuing their pursuit of back-to-back titles in the William Jones Cup.
