SIX people are facing various complaints in San Juan City, over the apparent harassment or incidents during the recent Wattah, Wattah Festival.
This was confirmed by San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora.
He said that six individuals were arrested last June 24, or the day of the Wattah Wattah Festival.
The said complaints were lodged against six people for allegedly causing inconvenience to passers-by during the Wattah Wattah Festival.
“Noong araw mismo ng kapistahan ay anim po ang kinasuhan at isa diyan involved nga supposedly naghagis ng muriatic acid. On the spot, anim po ang na-apprehend, nakasuhan,” Zamora said.
San Juan City conducts an annual Wattah Wattah Festival with the latest on June 24.
This is in honor of the patron saint John the Baptist.
The traditional water dousing is part of the day-long festivities.
But other residents went overboard and even doused water to passers-by that were unwilling.
Zamora said that he had personally accompanied one of the victims in the filing of a complaint before the Prosecutor’s Office.
Among the complaints include unjust vexation, malicious mischief and slander.
Meanwhile, several victims had decided not to proceed with their complaints after an amicable settlement.
“Meron ding ibang cases regarding damage to properties sa mga sasakyan ‘yung mga sumampa ng sasakyan, ngunit nagkaroon naman sila ng amicable settlement kaya hindi na po tinuloy,” Zamora said.
This prompted Zamora to make adjustments for the celebration of the festival.
A city ordinance had prohibited individuals from forcibly opening vehicles to drench passengers. They are also not allowed to clamber on top of or shake vehicles.
