CONTROVERSIAL drag queen Pura Luka Vega was arrested late Wednesday afternoon, in connection with the complaint filed against the artist who went viral with his “Ama Namin” remix performance.
Pura, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagante, was arrested by the Manila police after the Manila RTC Branch 36 issued a warrant of arrest.
The drag queen is being linked to offenses of immoral doctrines, obscene publications, and exhibition and indecent shows.
A bail bond was posted at P72,000.
Pura, known for being a part of the “Drag Den Philippines” had declared that they have yet to receive the notice from the Manila Prosecutors Office.
The case was filed by the group Hijos del Nazareno.
A video of Pura went viral while wearing religious garb, and rocking to the version of “Ama Namin.”
It became the center of both pro and anti supporters for the drag artist, with politicians and leaders of the Roman Catholic community chiming in.
Pura had been declared as persona non grata in several provinces, cities, and towns calling the performance “blasphemous and a disrespect to the religion.”
Pura is also facing criminal charges by the Philippines for Jesus Movement, a coalition of Christian groups.
