PSG defends Marcos’ chopper ride to Coldplay concert

SOLDIERS tasked with guarding President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. justified the use of a helicopter to transport the chief executive and his family to Coldplay’s Friday night show at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

Some people on social media criticized Marcos when pictures of the presidential chopper that appeared to be parked close to the venue surfaced, even as fans of the British rock band braved heavy traffic to make it to the event on time.

During the show, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin thanked fans for their effort, saying, ”We’ve seen some traffic, but I think you have the number one in the world.”

Presidential Security Group commander Major General Nelson Morales said the decision to use the presidential chopper stemmed from the ”unprecedented influx of 40,000 individuals eagerly attending a concert, resulting in unforeseen traffic complications along the route.”

”Recognizing that this traffic situation posed a potential threat to the security of our President, the PSG took decisive action by opting for the presidential chopper,” Morales said in a statement on Saturday.

”This decision not only ensured the safety of our leader but also exemplified our commitment to prioritizing security in the face of unexpected challenges. Your continued understanding and support for these measures are crucial in maintaining the safety and well-being of our nation’s leadership,” he added.

Marcos was accompanied by his wife Liza and their son Vinny to the concert.

Coldplay wrapped up their two-night concert in the Philippines on Saturday as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour.
