THE Philippine Statistics Authority said that the country’s unemployment rate unemployment rate slightly rose in April.
According to data from the PSA, the jobless rate clocked at 4% in April.
This is higher than the 3.9% tallied in March.
It translates to a 2.04 million number of unemployed Filipino workers in April.
This is up from the 2 million jobless workers in March.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate also saw an increase to 14.6% in April 2024 from 12.9% in April 2023 and 13.9% for January 2024.
“In terms of magnitude, 7.04 million of the 48.36 million employed individuals expressed the desire to have additional hours of work in their present job or to have additional job, or to have a new job with longer hours of work in April 2024,” the Philippine Statistics Authority said.
Meanwhile, the services sector saw the highest number of jobs, making up 61.4% of the total employment numbers, followed by agriculture at 20.3% and industry at 18.3%.
